ADENOVIRUS

Canine adenovirus infection comes in two forms - one form causes severe (even fatal) liver
disease (Canine Hepatitis); the other form causes respiratory disease which can lead to
pneumonia and death (Canine Adenovirus Pneumonia). These viruses are highly contagious. Dogs
of any age can be infected by canine adenovirus via contact with infected saliva, mucous, urine,
or feces. Neither form of canine adenovirus is transmitted to people or cats.

Vaccination of puppies should begin at six weeks-of-age and be repeated every two to four
weeks until 16 weeks-of-age. An annual booster vaccination should be given for life.
